There is a very famous saying in Tamil "Thappu seichavangala Arasan andrey kolvan!! Theivam nindru kollum".It means that a king punishes the accused on the same day he commits a crime while the almighty records his crimes to punish him later.And here is ANNIYAN who with a furious face and rage kills people who he thinks are destined to be killed for their crimes according to the ways adopted in Garuda Saasthra.


Ambi

Ramunajam iyengar(Vikram) alias ambi is a lawyer who strictly follows the rules.Ambi is such an honest man that he never tries to compromise anything for the rules.His ladylove is Nandhini(Satha) who hates his rules and principles for every small thing in life.Ambi gets frustrated and moans for every small violation of law in the society he moves.He receives a post card that says "Anniyan arrived."The card carries a message of logging on to the anniyan website to post their greivances and assures for immediate action.It also says to the reader to forward it to 15 more people.And so does ambi.And this is where the entire plot unveils and where serial killings begin.

The murders that are commited are not with the usual stuff of knives,sickle or pistol.The people who are tossed off for their crimes are put to death according to the ways cited in Garuda Saasthra which briefs the methods of punishment for people according to the level of crime commited by them.For instance Anniyan kills a man by boiling him in hot oil as that is what the punishment he deserves for deceiving people and supplying them with inferior food according to Garuda Saasthra.
A man killed by herd of buffaloes,another one by leeches sucking the blood to the core are the other instances.

The film has been first ever big budget South Indian film shot at a whopping 26.5 crores rupees.This shows that the producer Oscar Ravichandran's faith in Shankar and the excellent rapport he has with him.No one can really argue about Vikram's performance.He is simply superb.The art direction by Sabu cyril has been really a class apart.One song shot at picturesque tulips in Amsterdam really stole the heart. Though the film has got such gore instances it certainly carries a strong message to everyone.It is not a film intended for Tamilians.It is a much watch film for all the Indians.If a country like Singapore which was poor country once upon a time is able to have a better economy than us why not we? If a country like Japan which has sustained the ravages and ruins of quakes and wars has risen like a phoenix in economy why not we?India stands at 49th place in world economy.Interestingly it stands 2nd in the country most infected with AIDS and 3rd in the most corrupted country in the world.Why are we all in such an awful position?
Every Indian should think it is their country and should have a due respect for it.
The media is the most powerful medium to propogate ideas to the society so that they imbibe them.

ANNIYAN is not a film for mass entertainment.
It is a film to induce mass movement(change in attitude of the people towards their country).

Hats off to Shankar and kudos to Vikram for bringing in such a good movie.
